I like story headlines and I like news too.
And the headline news for the Month of August 2010 leaves me with no doubt our Eagle County schools really, really, really need you all to vote no on Amendment 61.
After all, just check out where our taxpayer money actually goes! (And go it does…but not for the fine art of reading, writing and ‘rithmatic…no no no!)
My Take–Schools ought not be doing this! No no no!
And why are our schools, those with a ‘high percentage of free or reduced price lunches’, spending even more tax dollars for those ‘situations where kids depend on our public schools for a healthy, nutritious meal’?
My Take-
When I was in school, around 110 years ago or so, times were pretty good and our schools had money. Very, very few kids had taxpayer subsidized lunches and schools had –you know–money—to you know, educate!
That was a schools job. Education.
But times have changed and now our welfare Public Aid/Public Education schools are cash poor- or so they say.
I figure it this way. Schools are in the education business (the Three R’s) and our County’s Social Services are in the Child Health and Welfare business. Being as that is the case, our schools need to stop worrying about birth control and supplying school chefs to cook healthy lunches and concentrate on educating our students instead… And our County’s Welfare and Protective Services need to make sure mom and dad take proper care of THEIR minor children… After all isn’t that is what our tax dollars pay each group to do?
While we are on the subject of schools and their obvious lack of Colorado Taxpayer Funding cuz this chef-prepared food, and birth control stuff gets costly quickly, I wonder, what is the percentage of non-citizen as well as first-generation citizen students who are currently enrolled for education in our Eagle County schools?
My Take – If Greeley, Colorado schools know the answer – and indeed they do…it is a sure bet that Eagle County Schools know too!. So we —who fund them should — also know?
Great read and good points Marty
Thank you :>)
Read these articles and then…you decide yay or nay on the spending! Lol!

An education in English: District 6 teaches students to speak for themselves
August 23, 2010
Greeley-Evans School District 6
While the district is not legally allowed to ask the immigration or citizenship status of its students, it can ask all students for country of birth at registration. From that question, the district can deduce which of its students are citizens.
From the beginning, they are taught in English, not Spanish.

School is Denver’s first to offer contraceptives in fight against teen births
August 22, 2010
DENVER (DP) – Condoms, birth-control pills and emergency contraception are available to any Bruce Randolph School student whose parent has signed them up for services at the school-based clinic operated by Denver Health.
-Denver’s teen birth rate was almost double the state rate, with 41.5 out of every 1,000 girls between ages 15 and 17 having babies-
Nationwide, the birth rate for 15- to 17-year-olds was 22 per 1,000 in 2006, according to the most recent data available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Sprouting from Sowing Seeds

Brush Creek Elementary’s “Scratch Cooking,” a pilot program starting this school year that will bring fresh, local and made-from-scratch food into the cafeteria, as opposed
to the standard heat-and-serve fare schools usually offer.
Though the school has hired a chef…
Liken and Colomitz have a dream of expanding the “Scratch Cooking” program into other valley schools, especially those schools that have a high percentage of free or reduced price lunches, situations where kids depend on school for a healthy, nutritious meal.

(The Welfare Show is over schools!)
If the feds, and the states, and the schools districts themselves will not police themselves–we here in Colorado will do it for them.
It goes without saying, but is worth repeating….
Vote Yes on:
Amendment 60
Amendment 61
and
Proposition 101
PS After I wrote this commentary, a whole new article popped up!
* See, our schools aren’t poor after all!
August 27, 2010
Renovations at the old Battle Mountain building in Eagle-Vail are set to begin in November
Phil Onofrio, the district’s chief financial officer, said the total budget for the renovation at the Eagle-Vail school is $10.5 million.

Did you vote on this multimillion dollar remodel?
I didn’t think so!
But come November-we will get to vote!
Remember, 3/4th of ALL Colorado Public school districts do not care if the Amendments pass-they do not borrow anything.
Vote YES on Amendment 60, 61 and Proposition 101.
It is high time our state and schools learn to operate with a budget. That they ask taxpayers for permission to borrow our money instead of we taxpayers handing them a endorsed “fill in whatever dollar amount you want” blank check.
$3 million dollars left over from a bond issue that should have been returned to its’ rightful owners. The liberal minded and spending school board gave the district permission to borrow another $7.7 million to go ahead with a project that never got voter approval. I sure didn’t give the district permission to borrow $7.7 million! You better believe I will be voting yes on Amendments 60, 61 and Proposition 101. It’s time that we take back control of how our money is spent! ECS, your days of living high on the hog are coming to an end. It’s time to start to operate within your means just like the rest of the county taxpayers are doing!
When I read commentary such as this, it really makes me think.
I was educated at the expense of the public. But why should I support public education?
I remember my mother’s dying days with cancer, and the support and aid she received via state supported medicaid. But why should I support public health?
When my property was burglarized a few years ago, the police fortunately apprehended the criminals and returned my property whole. But why should I worry about public safety?
I remember my neighbor’s house burning, and the fire safety crew putting out the fire and nobody being injured. But why should I worry about public fire protection?
I drive public roads every day, butt why should I care about their condition?
I work for a private employer with contracts to provide services to state and local government, but why should I care about my job?
Yeah, Martyy, I’m really with you on this one. You can count on me.
Vote NO on Amendment 60, 61, and Proposition 101.
Don’t vote for another depression.
re — “When I read commentary such as this, it really makes me think. I was educated at the expense of the public. ”
Yes, I can tell you were. Sorry about that-
Correctly written in English, it is either:
1) “When I read a commentary such as this,”
or…
2) “When I read commentaries such as this,”
BUT!
Just like you, “Yeah, Martyy, (sic) I’m really with you on this one. You can count on me.”
Me too! And most of Colorado as well. The majority are saying * VOTE YES * on-
Amendment 60
Amendment =61
and
Proposition 101 too.
YES, YES and YES ~!!!
We will amend those as needed–LATER on…..AFTER THEY PASS.
I appreciate your viewpoint St. Jerome. I was assuming as I read through this you worked for a government entity, and indeed you do, via private contract. Trouble with that is, “we” are the government-government is not self-supporting. And evidently, not self-policing re wasteful spending either.
I do have a couple of questions for you though.
Why do taxpayers owe non-payers Medicaid (pure and simple WELFARE) money? Who reimburses taxpayers for that welfare health care? Other working family members?
People who pay taxes PAY for their retirement Medicare (not Medicaid) coverage, and usually pay for private supplemental insurance as well. I know my dad did, and yes, he too became very ill so I sympathize there. But taxpayers (me and you) did NOT pay his health costs-my DAD DID! For years. By the way, this it is called Personal Responsibility.
And tell me this please -
What part of Birth Control for 11 year old students to 18 year old students is the government schools responsibility regarding education?
Is it: some? Or none?
What part of feeding your own child healthy food is the government schools responsibility, with regards to teaching- aka education?
Is this 100% the schools educational responsibility too? Maybe some of their education responsibility? Or none of it?
And to close. Without Colorado voters putting the brakes on these spenders by voting YES on Amendment 60, 61 and Proposition 101, do you not think “we” (who ARE the government and deposit all of their cash) will go belly-up?
When that happens, then what?
VOTE YES ON THESE AMENDMENTS
DON’T LISTEN TO THE GOVERNMENT PORK
We finally can vote to keep our money directly. No more DMV ripoffs, pork spending, or wasting my money.
The money we save will come from Colorado State Funding as people are saying, if these pass. They will take the money from overpaid state employees, congress and pure pork and finally streamline spending. Plus k-12 is protected, where is your argument now.
I think these measures are great. It is about time someone wrote some initiatives to actually help us keep our money. The government is out of control. It is so important that Coloradans vote yes on these issues because we are overtaxed and the money is not going where we want. This reigns in the pork where it counts in my pocket. Whoever wrote these. You are my hero. Maybe next year you guys can bring back some more tabor measures too.
As for the government, listen up. I read your cons to these measures and they are total BS. I don’t care about DMV or state workers. You guys should not be getting my money. I also don’t care that CU Boulder gets money. They make enough money and colleges should not be paid by me. Your arguments are crap. I cannot imagine why anyone would not vote for these measures.
