Remember when you abandoned your old Dial-Up modem to access the Internet – and moved up to Broadband (i.e. DSL or a Cable Modem)?
Well if you purchased a SmartPhone in the last six months (Androids) or recently a new iPhone 5 – you’re most likely ready for a quantum jump in Internet speeds using your Smartphone. Much, much faster Email, smooth Video Streaming, Stock Reports, Streaming Pandora Radio Audio, Internet browsing, the list is endless.
So why isn’t my new SmartPhone performing as FAST as I’m being told in those Verizon and AT&T/Sprint television ads?
The ECT will show you!
What the TV ads aren’t volunteering this that your new Smartphone has to be “talking to” an UPGRADED 4G LTE cell phone tower from your Verizon, Sprint or AT&T provider.
Therein lies the rub.
The UPGRADED cell phone towers have not been completed here in Eagle County, Colorado – as of this writing – 29SEPT2012. Not surprisingly the major Telcos have given the major U.S. city’s priority in allocating expensive infrastructure to upgrades their respective cellphone towers.
To oversimplify what’s needed to upgrade a cell tower:
1 – optic fiber run to the base of the existing cell phone tower
2 – upgraded antennas and new broadcast radio gear to provide the new 4G LTE wireless service – along with the required wireless “backward compatibility” for older phones that today are 3G capable only.
It’s a big, expensive, time-consuming process – that starts with running the required “glass – fiber optics” to the base of the existing towers.
So far both Vail Resorts and the Town of Vail – have demonstrated little technical knowledge about what is actually required (in Vail) and everywhere else – for this level of 4G LTE Wireless service. Vail – it doesn’t come from signing a paper contract with a telco – it requires, glass, new radios and antenna’s – and somebody paying for that – including the installation costs.
Vail Resorts – it seems has chosen to go to the time and expense of providing current WiFi technology in their new Vail Village Gondola running to Mid-Vail. Once 4G LTE service is installed in Vail – VR’s (Gondy only) WiFi service will be mostly obsoleted. In the ECT’s view VR is far better off to use whatever influence they have with the Telcos to accelerate the installation of 4G LTE in Vail and on the mountain. Skiers know the phone service all over Vail Mountain is pretty good on any given day – that is not a Holiday…
So now you know – what you’re not being told about the new 4G LTE wireless service, thanks to the ECT folks!
