Not so Fast – Town of Vail

by Government Watcher –

Last week Vail’s Town Council voted and passed – Resolution 2 of 2012 – insisting in the Resolution that….

“WHEREAS, the Town of Vail is the major economic engine of Eagle County and its property values are very much part of the funding mechanism of Eagle County schools. In fact, $21.5 million annually is raised through Town of Vail property taxes, thus the town is a major contributor to the school district;

Not so fast – Vail Council…

The ECT supports the view that – “Vail is the major economic engine of Eagle County”  HOWEVER – we wanted to know more about the Resolutions allegation that…”In fact, $21.5 million annually is raised through Town of Vail property taxes, thus the town is a major contributor to the school district…”

$21.5 Million?  How do you know that figure, Council?  So the ECT contacted the entire TOV Council and their Finance Manager (Judy Camp) TWICE last week.

Their response, to the ECT’s polite question?

No response.

If Vail elected leadership can’t respond in a timely fashion to a reasonable question about what the Town Council is alleging, then WHY SHOULD ANYONE BELIEVE YOU – Mayor Daly and peers?

(Click Here) for a copy of that Resolution.  If you move your mouse over the image in this story – and read the name of the image when it pops up – it should be easy to tell why the ECT chose that photo…

  1. The funny (sad really) thing about Red Sandstone School is that many of those supporters asking for it to be kept open live and own property in Vail. Vail has one of the lowest property tax rates in the valley. The VR employee pays about $3000/year in property tax on a home value of roughly $1MM. That same million $ home in Homestead has a property tax bill of about $4700 this year. That $21.5 million in property taxes should be more! Perhaps it’s time for many of the users of our public school system to pony up and start footing more of the bill!
