Powder Returns to Vail – Massive Crowds Materialize

by Fans of Warren Miller

Dateline:  Vail, Colorado – Sunday, January 22nd 2012.  Finally a real powder day arrives in Vail for the 2011-2012 Ski Season.

The crowds were immense in the early morning lift lines – Vail’s Chair 6 (Riva Bahn) shown here.  The ECT folks didn’t have the heart to show you what the normally busier Vista Bahn lift line looked like at 8:30AM when the lifts opened to the public.  Also on Sunday, Vail’s Lifts Mechanical/Electric teams had an especially busy day – with many lifts (mostly in the back bowls) stopping for 20-25 minutes throughout the morning.  Skiers at Copper Mountain in Summit County – had it a bit worse as all electricity to all Copper lifts went our at about 11:30AM yesterday.  Average wait ~45 minutes to get the Copper lifts running again.  To their credit Copper Mountain offered all Skiers a free one day ski pass to make up for the inconvenience.   Just (CLICK ON) the ECT’s photo below to enlarge it.
